Why I Became a Life Coach

When I first became a nonprofit CEO, I had a very dysfunctional board of directors.  They weren’t engaged, didn’t know what they were supposed to do, were too involved in the day-to-day operations, micro-managed me, and a few of them just weren’t very nice.

I was very frustrated, so I went to an experienced, female CEO that I trusted and asked for advice.  She was gracious and gave me some good advice but later, it got back to me that she had commented to someone else that I shouldn’t “air my dirty laundry in public.”  That was very hurtful to me.  How was asking for advice airing dirty laundry?!  I needed her advice on how to get it clean!

I didn’t want to be that person who criticizes rather than uplifts.  I want to be known for being an encourager.  I want to have the courage to give courage to others.

BE BRAVE!  YOU CAN DO THIS!

It breaks my heart when I say that to women who are struggling with a problem, task, self-esteem, doubt, etc., and I see the look in their eyes.  It’s a mixture of relief, a gush of gratitude, even love.  Their shoulders relax, eyes soften at the corners, the corners of their mouth turn up slightly, and they nod slightly in acknowledgement.  It breaks my heart for them that they feel like they can’t do whatever it is, that they feel like they’re not enough.

So, I became a Life Coach.

I’m a Life Coach because:

I believe that asking for and receiving help is actually a show of strength not weakness.

I believe that professional women can and should ask for and receive the help they need and want to be successful in their lives and careers.

I believe that you are enough, just the way you are!

I believe that you are not “too much.” You are perfect, just the way your are!

I believe there is no shame in asking for help.

I believe there is no shame in asking for help.

I want to build a tribe of encouragers, with no competition to be more, better, smarter, whatever.  STRONG, BRAVE, LOVING, ACCEPTING, COURAGEOUS women supporting each other!
